Banana Bowl 3

Description

Banana Bowl 3 is a soda-fired ceramic fruit bowl with a sunshine yellow glaze over a warm brown nerikomi checker pattern.

I created this piece by draping a slab of patterned clay over a bunch of fresh bananas, then applying gentle pressure to the clay until it took on their form. Later, I removed the fruit, which created long hollow shapes inside the bowl.

This piece is soda fired! When soda ash is added into the hot kiln, it vaporizes and coats the pieces, making a totally unique glaze. Each banana bowl is one-of-a-kind.
