I created this series of stoneware bowls by laying nerikomi (patterned clay) slabs over bunches of fresh fruit. Then, I applied pressure until the clay took on the shape of the fruit. Later, I removed the fruit, creating the hollow spaces inside the bowls.
Each bowl is soda fired. When soda ash is added to a hot kiln, it vaporizes and coats each piece, creating a totally unique glaze. The outcomes are unpredictable, making each piece totally one-of-a-kind.
These pieces are available during my limited-time studio sale! Shop here!
