BAD AT DRAWING Class

BAD AT DRAWING Class isn’t about being “bad” at all.

Dylan and I have been busy preparing for our upcoming class at OK Contemporary Studio School. Its called “BAD AT DRAWING Class” and the big secret is this class isn’t about being “bad” at all! It’s about learning to draw with joy and confidence!

We designed this class to make drawing accessible and fun for anyone, whether they have dawn before or not. We will be scribbling, tracing, embracing our luck, and playing drawing games together.

the text "BAD AT DRAWING" floats above a feild of wild scribble marks. "BAD AT" has a red line struck through it, leaving only the word "DRAWING"

Take a look at what we will be learning:

Week 1: The Basics! Materials, Marks, Lines, Shapes

In the first week we will introduce everyone to different materials. Some of these materials will be totally new to most people. Other materials are familiar, but aren’t usually used for art drawings (hello, liquid eyeliner!)

Week 2: Scribbling and Gesture

The second week will be all about scribbling. Most artists call scribbling “gesture”. Gesture is how we can add movement, momentum, and personality to our mark-making.

Week 3: Funny Faces

Humans see faces everywhere we look! Drawing faces and portraits doesn’t have to be serious business, it can be a lot of fun!

Week 4: Non-stick Figures

After faces, we will learn about bringing bodies to life too. We will show you some easy ways to draw torsos, arms, legs, and hands. After this week, stick figures will be a thing of the past!

Week 5: Tracing and Copy-cats

Tracing is one of my favorite ways to draw. It is quick, clear, and easy. We will show you different tracing strategies and how to make the most of whats already available to you around the edges and in the shadows.

Week 6: Accidents and Mistakes (AKA Luck)

We will explore the ways “mistakes” can actually offer a spring-board into a new perspective. Luck and chance are excellent tools, you just need to learn to trust them.

Week 7: Better Together

Now that we have all kinds of tools, we will practice making large collaborative drawings together!

Week 8: Drawing Games

On the last day of class we will play some drawing games together and talk about what we like and what we learned.

Do you want to draw with us?

You can register through Oklahoma Contemporary Studio School. Registration closes March 20th. Class begins April 3rd.

This class is for anyone who thinks they are ‘bad at drawing’. Together we will face our fears by making drawings that are BAD, WEIRD, WILD, MESSY, SILLY, FREAKY and FUN! We will learn to draw with joy and confidence! This class is perfect for beginners, scaredy cats, crybabies, armatures, outlaws, trouble makers and rule breakers!
